why we nurture
Babies, toddlers, and children of all ages have mental health needs. The quality of their relationships, especially their early ones, impacts lifelong mental health the most. The critical period of development in children's early years sets the foundation for our physical, cognitive, emotional and social development throughout our lives. Our brains can change and grow at any age (even in adulthood) but early intervention is best.
According to the CDC, 1 in 6 U.S. children aged 2–8 years (17.4%) had a diagnosed mental, behavioral, or developmental disorder. When you look at children below the poverty line, this becomes 1 in 5 U.S. children. And we know from research that the majority of problems in children go undiagnosed and untreated.
The Nurture Place has created a space for families to access what we know through evidence-based research works:
-
the importance of the parent-child relationship
- an understanding of healthy child development
-
the best & latest social-emotional programs and interventions
-
social connection with peers and trained professionals
A key predictor of children’s overall health and well-being as well as their success in school is social-emotional health and the foundation of social-emotional health comes from our early relationships and experiences. The Nurture Place is committed to a neighborhood model of care. We collaborate with the community to provide safe and healing spaces for families to connect, play and grow!
